[info]skyflame  posted this. It's on a Metro sign! (Via [info]dreamwell_ali )

Confess if you are any of these people!
I confess that I am #1, 4, 6, 13, 16 and 18!

--------------

I spy someone who...

1. sleeps with a teddy bear - well, a stuffed cow. :)
2. paints their chest at football games
3. was a spelling bee champ
4. secretly loves kittens (this really is not a secret)
5. is listening to '90s dance music
6. ate glue in kindergarten Heck, later than that.  In elementary school, we had a school project that involved making log cabins by gluing pretzel sticks to milk cartons.
7. takes karaoke really seriously (at least I used to)
8. loves to talk about their kids
9. is going to sleep past their stop
10. played keyboard in a rock band during high school
11. uses "password" as their password
12. wears a toupee
13. cries during chick flicks
14. thinks Pig Latin is the best thing ever
15. dresses up for Sci-Fi conventions
16. picks their nose at red lights
17. eats co-workers' sandwiches from the office fridge
18. spent long hours doing their hair
19. sucked their thumb until they were 13
20. is too old to be living with their parents

Life is fun. Keep on living.
Use caution around the tracks.

this day in law...

pennsylvania became the first state to enact
a law allowing for the censorship of motion pictures.

PL 1067, signed by governor john kinley tener on July 19, 1911,
established the pennsylvania state board of censors was the first
such body in the united states and also one of the strictest.

list of specifically banned subject matter )

ohio and kansas followed suit in 1913. the ohio board of censors had the duty
of reviewing and approving all films intended to be exhibited in the state.
the board charged a fee for the approval service and could order the arrest
of anyone showing an unapproved film in the state.

the mutual film corporation was a regional film exchange which grew into a
nation-wide film distributor and producer of films by artists such as wd griffith
and charlie chaplin challenged the laws in both states but without success.

mutual film corp. v. industrial commission of ohio 236 U.S. 230 (decided 23 feb 1915)

"the exhibition of moving pictures is a business, pure and simple, originated and conducted for profit like other spectacles, and not to be regarded as part of the press of the country or as organs of public opinion within the meaning of freedom of speech and publication guaranteed by the constitution"

the court equated motion pictures with such forms of entertainment as circus
acts and magic shows and film wouldn't be legally considered as a creative work
of personal self-expression entitled to constitutional protection until...

joseph burnstyn, inc. v. wilson 343 U.S. 495 (decided 26 may 1952)

- the case was argued by the great civil rights attorney ephraim london
whose most famous (though not as successful) client was lenny bruce!

remember the moonies?

i watched a great discussion on
cspan's 'booknotes' last weekend.
john gorenfeld was speaking about his book...

Bad Moon Rising: How Reverend Moon Created the Washington Times,
Seduced the Religious Right, and Built an American Kingdom

it was amazingly fascinating!
i found a good overview/excerpt about reverend moon
by mr gorenfeld at alternet.org

i've also put behind the cut (just in case the article is taken down some day!)

read it, read it, read it! )

one of the most fantastic and ridiculous stories he relates
involves the crowning of reverend moon as king of america
by a group of congressmen...

The Rev. Moon Honored at Hill Reception: Lawmakers Say They Were Misled

yes, it's all true!

Warhammer 40cake

My husband is 40 years old today! I had the idea to make him a chaos cake, the punish title of it came later... promise.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEETIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oooooooooooo cake )

It's a white cake coloured with swirly blue dye. Iced with grey/purple and red cream cheese icing. I put a little orange extract in the icing to counteract the assy taste of a lot of food colouring. The spikes and skulls are marzipan. It took 5 fucking hours to make, but my sweetie is worth it!

I am going to be putting up a gallery... if not an actual store for my jewelry and such.

The temp page is all I have up yet and it just points to my etsy page. First priority is going to be putting up sold stuff I think.

Josh's Garden

This is all the work of my love, Josh. He saved the seeds from last year's heirloom tomatoes as well as bought lots of new seeds for us to try. He spent weeks sprouting everything, and then lots of time and love planting everything for us to enjoy. It has been hard work but what a great learning process for us both. I have such a black thumb but I think now I may have to upgrade it to "slightly not so much black." I'm really proud of him for growing all this stuff! It ended up being much more work than either of us ever dreamed! The San Jose soil makes plants grow double-time, or as the musicians would say, "cut time." If tomatoes played music, they would play Charlie Parker. Quarter note = 200bpm!!!

He spends his time growing it and then I get to work on cooking it up. Next on my cooking list is going to be some orange marmalade. I might also do a batch of habenero jelly or add the habaneros to the marmelade? I can't decide!

Tomato Alley

We have two "cherry tomato" plants that are growing HUGE tomatoes. Uh, what?

He says, "in the foreground you can see some of the zucchini plant, then there's a single heirloom tomato, and the vining plants are roadside cantaloupe and moon & stars watermelon. behind me is a bunch of other stuff, not to mention the neighbor's lemon tree growing over the fence. in the far back you can see the avocado and fig trees."
